When is GRPL discontinuing the Hotspot Lending Service?

Beginning Tuesday, March 3, 2026, GRPL will disable holds on mobile hotspots and, on June 22, will discontinue its Hotspot Lending Service altogether.

I have a HotSpot on hold, what does this mean for me?

GRPL will fulfill as many existing holds as possible until the collection has been discontinued. New holds will no longer be able to be placed beginning March 3, 2026.

I have a HotSpot checked out, what does this mean for me?

Hotspot loan periods will continue to be 6 weeks until May 8, 2026. For any hotspot checked out after May 8, 2026 the loan period will end on June 12, 2026.

What happens if I lose the Hotspot I checked out?

You will be held responsible for the full replacement cost of the hotspot ($95.00) if it is not returned within 30 days of the due date .

Hotspots will be deactivated 72 hours after the due date.

Do I need an ID to check out a Hotspot?

When picking up a hotspot, you must be 18 or older, have a valid GRPL library card, and show a current photo ID with proof of address. You will need to sign a waiver the first time you check out a hotspot.

Where can I pick up and return a Hotspot?

Hotspots can be picked up and returned to the Customer Service Desk at any Grand Rapids Public Library location.

How many devices can be connected to a Hotspot at a time?

Up to 15 devices can be connected to a hotspot at the same time.

You can have only one hotspot checked out on your account at a time.

How long do Hotspots check out for?

Hotspots check out for 6 weeks, with 2 (3 week) renewals if there are not any holds on it.
