Public Computers

The Grand Rapids Public Library has public computers available at all locations.

To use a computer, you need a valid library card. Temporary guest passes are available for users who are visiting from out of town or don’t have a library card. Computer sessions are limited to 1 hour at all branch locations and 2 hours at the Main Library.

All public computers offer:

  • Libre Office, an open source software that is free for the library to use. This software includes word processing, spreadsheets, and multimedia presentations.
  • Microsoft Word is offered on select computers. See a staff person for details.
  • Google Chrome for web browsing.
  • A variety of other software for photo editing, video viewing, and other applications.

Laptop Connections & WiFi Service

Free wireless (802.11b/g) access is available in all 8 library locations.
The library’s public WiFi network is called ‘GRPL_Public’.

The Grand Rapids Public Library reserves the right to terminate network connections in accordance with Library policies and Federal, State, and local laws.

Free Computer Training

One-on-One Technology Help

The library also offers One-on-One Technology Help at our library branches. Find individual assistance in learning: basic computers, Internet, email, word processing, eBooks, spreadsheets, and library resources. Call one of our seven branches to set up an appointment.

Computer Classes

The Grand Rapids Public Library offers free computer training for all levels—novice to advanced. These free classes are offered September through May and cover a wide range of topics.

  • Your password is usually the last four digits of your phone number, unless you changed it to something else. If you forgot your password and need to reset it, visit this page.

  • Rules regarding access to the Grand Rapids Public Library’s computers, including the Internet and other electronic resources, in support of its mission can be found here.

  • Faxing, copying, & scanning services are currently free and are limited to 50 pages per week. After the first 50 pages, there is a fee of 15 cents for black and white and 50 cents for color copies/prints. Double-sided printing is considered two pages.
