Mobile Library

About the Mobile Library

Our mobile library brings important library resources into the community. It allows us to reach neighborhoods, communities, and individuals across Grand Rapids.

Since 2020, our Mobile Library has provided targeted neighborhood access to library resources. It allows us to deepen our connection with local organizations and community partners, as well as bridge early literacy gaps.

Mobile Library Pilot Projects

We are prototyping dynamic and innovative services with many community partners. Below are some examples.

Mobile Library Pop-Ups bring GRPL’s library services to select neighborhoods. Our partners include the Cook Library Center and Baxter Community Center.

Our Pop-Ups include:

  • Free WiFi
  • Outdoor furniture
  • Lawn games
  • Board games
  • A selection of books from our collection

Delivery Service

Let us bring the library to you! Using this service is easy. Participating organizations select titles from our collection. and the Mobile Library delivers the items directly to them.

We partner with New City Kids, Paul I. Phillips Boys & Girls Club, and other organizations to use this targeted delivery service model. The Mobile Library Delivery Service is available during the fall and winter months.

Little Book Nooks

Our Little Book Nooks offer free books and information to visitors of local organizations. They feature colorful bookshelves, library handouts, and free books selected by our staff.

We’ve partnered with the Hispanic Center of West Michigan to pilot Little Book Nooks.

Our Mobile Library is available to visit festivals, community events, and neighborhood programs.

During our visit, we will provide:

  • Material available
    for check-out
  • Library card registration
  • Give-aways

Request that Grand Rapids Public Library staff attend your community event.
