The Good Life is Our Birthright: Indigenous Foods Research in the Great Lakes Region
Tuesday, August 3, 2021, 7:00 pm
Zoom

Minobimaadiz (the good life) is something that Anishinaabe people learn as part of their education. It assumes that they will strive to live their lives in a way that is in balance and harmony with nature. Dr. Martin Reinhardt will discuss the relationship the Anishinaabe have with spirit beings that they often think of as food. These relationships with food were nearly destroyed through colonization and neglect. Dr. Reinhardt is a professor of Native American Studies at Northern Michigan University, and serves as the interim director of the Center for Native American Studies. He will share research on Indigenous food relationships in the Great Lakes Region.
