How to get a Grand Rapids Public Library Card
You can get a Grand Rapids Public Library card by visiting the Circulation (check-out) desk at any of our 8 locations.
What you need
- A valid picture ID with your current address on it. This could include:
- A driver's license or state ID
- A passport
- A military ID
- A resident alien card (green card)
- Other government issued IDs, see staff for details
If your picture ID does not have your current address, bring it anyway, along with one of the following:
- A utility bill received within the last two months
- Business or legal correspondence with a mechanically generated address label
- Printed checks with your current address on them
- Pay check or stub
- Lease agreement
- Any post office generated change of address sticker
What you do
- Fill out the library card application
- It is free to get your first library card. If you need to replace a lost card, the replacement fee is 1.00.
Getting your child a library card
- To get your child a library card, you, as parent or legal guardian, will fill out a children's application and show identification as listed above. A child can have a card at any age, but the child must be present in order to receive one.
