Tips for Using the Internet/Safe Surfing With Your Child

  • If you don't know what the link goes to, don't click it.
  • Don't give personal information to websites you don't trust.
  • Read the fine print before agreeing to anything online.
  • Get familiar with internet slang/abbreviations.
  • Make sure your anti-virus protection software is up-to-date.
  • Communicate with your kids about what they are using the internet for.
  • Use common sense: be wary of giveaways, contests, and advertisements that

may be harmful.

  • Don't open suspicious email and don't open attachments from email that

you don't trust.

  • Use strong passwords for online accounts: banking, email, Facebook etc.
  • When downloading free software, be sure you trust the site you are

getting it from.

  • It's a good idea to take a look at a website before letting your child go to it to make sure the site is safe and content-appropriate.
