Introduction
The purpose of Horror Fiction is to produce fear in readers. This is accomplished both with the inclusion of ghosts, vampires, and other supernatural monsters and with an overall dark tone and menacing atmosphere. Often this books include graphic violence and explicit language. Unexpected events jolt the reader and keep the pace of these books moving quickly to often unresolved endings.
Classics
These classic horror titles fit into many of the subgenres below and so include a range of monsters and villains, but they all have in common that they were published before 1980, and so fit into the category of older or original classics.
