Information Clipping Files

African American Newspaper Clippings - Covering a time period from 1830 to 1935, from various Michigan newspapers, these clippings document the history of African Americans in the West Michigan area.

Biography and Portrait Files - Cabinets in the GRHSC department containing hundreds of files on the area's most notable men and women

Grand Rapids Homes and Architects - The GRHSC Architectural Database contains information on over 2800 properties in the metropolitan area. It spans the years 1907 to 1942 and includes a wide variety of residential, commercial and institutional locations.

Pamphlet & Article Files - Cabinets in the GRHSC containing a wealth of information on hundreds of local subjects

Women's History Clippings - Covering a time period from the 1840s to Early 1930s, these clippings document the history of women during that time period in the West Michigan area.

Newspapers and Magazines

  • The library owns literally thousands of magazines and newspapers in print, microfiche, microfilm, and electronic formats. These magazines are located in the Reading Room, our Youth Services Department, the Grand Rapids History and Special Collections Department, and our Retrieval Desk at the Main library, as well as at each of our branches.
  • Search our Catalog for specific titles. Our catalog will tell you the dates we own, the most recent issues we've received, and which locations hold these magazines and newspapers.
  • Search our databases for full-text articles and citations from thousands more magazines and newspapers. Check MeL (the Michigan Electronic Library) to find out if a magazine's full-text articles are included in a database.
