VIP at Taste of Soul Sunday

One of my favorite gospel songs is “I Give Myself Away” by William McDowell and when VIP sings it during Sunday Worship at New Hope it often brings me to tears. Yes, they are that good.

VIP (Very Important Praise) is the youth praise team at New Hope Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. VIP was established in about 2002 and is comprised of youth and adults between the ages of 13 and 28 under the leadership of choir director, Lamar James. VIP ministers primarily at New Hope Baptist Church and they are the main worship team on the 3rd Sunday of each month at New Hope. VIP has ministered to several area youth programs within the Grand Rapids as well.

VIP’s voices and energy are electrifying. During a recent service we learned that one of the senior mothers of the church had passed away and some other tragedies had caused church members to be in a very somber mood. After prayer, worship leader Michael Reedy lead VIP in the song “Shifting the Atmosphere.” This song is about how worship can heal, move, change situations and moods. Before the song was over you could feel and hear the sounds of rejoicing, the sounds of relief, the sounds of new faith, the sounds of new hope; you could actually feel the mood in the room shift and change. VIP’s voices and worship style had done just what the song said … they shifted the atmosphere. IT WAS POWERFUL!

You do not want to miss this talented and gifted group of young people. They will inspire you. VIP performs at1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Main Library of the Grand Rapids Public Library during Taste of Soul Sunday.
