In case you didn’t catch that, it’s “Pomp and Circumstance.” You know, the “graduation theme.” It’s almost time to put on the polyester robes, make (or listen to) long speeches and throw mortar boards in the air. It’s commencement time. A time to begin. Students begin sleeping later, packing for college, working summer jobs. Parents begin planning backyard grad parties, digging into college savings funds, and working out ideas for converting bedrooms into workout or crafting spaces.
And after you’ve given away the last slices of cake and written out the thank you cards, what comes next? College? Tech school? A backpacking trip through Europe (or the UP)? How will you deal with an empty nest? If those questions linger, you may find answers here. As William Butler Yeats said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” This summer, let us feed your fire.
