Labor Day is just around the corner and that means school-age kids and their parents are gearing up for the new school year starting next week. As a child, I always enjoyed the anticipation of a new school year; I often wondered if my teachers would like me and if the cute, popular girl would be in my class. I also remember a back-to-school commercial that played the song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” as parents rejoiced when their children rode away on school buses.
School seems to only get more difficult for students, and the Grand Rapids Public Library is a great place to assist you with your learning needs. It offers more than just books; it has databases for research, music, and computers – all free to use with a library card. Students who attend Grand Rapids Public Schools can even checkout laptops to use in the library while they get their homework done.
One of my favorite library databases is the Learning Express Library. This database has online tutorials and ebooks that can help you strengthen your math, reading, and study skills. All of the learning centers are tailored around specific age groups – elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. I have used the Learning Express Library to improve my Microsoft Excel skills.
The Grand Rapids Public Library has eight branches around Grand Rapids, so make sure to make sure to stop by after school!
