November is National Family Caregivers Month and the Grand Rapids Public Library has partnered with the Caregiver Resource Network to offer The Art of Caregiving , an open house on Monday, November 8, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Main Library. This event will focus on how to incorporate a variety of creative therapies into your caregiving routine.
You will also have a chance to view the Caregiver Resource Network’s ArtPrize entry “Don’t Walk the Caregiver Path Alone” which focuses on photographs of caregivers and their loved ones. The artist, Dan Johnson of Dan Johnson Photography, will be available to discuss the exhibit from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The exhibit is intended to remind viewers of the beauty of aging, that care giving will affect us all, and that there is help and hope for every caregiver. We hope the collection of photographic artwork will help you see the beauty that can be part of the caregiving process.
A number of sponsors with information tables will be present to provide helpful information on various topics such as home care services, assisted living, adult day care, and much more.
The sponsors include: Angel Care, Alzheimer’s Association, Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan, Care Resources, Clark Retirement, ComForcare Senior Services, Elders’ Helpers, Gerontology Network, HHS Health Options, Home Instead Senior Care, Hope Network Side by Side, Law Office of Sean Patrick Cox PLLC, Maple Creek, O’Bee Caregiver Resources, Pilgrim Manor & Care, Priority Health, Porter Hills, Right at Home, Safe Call, Sarah Care Adult Day Center, Seniors Helping Seniors, and Visiting Angels.
Perhaps you don’t think of yourself as a caregiver but, according to the National Family Caregivers Association, “more than 65 million people provide care for a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friend during any given year.” Please join us for this open house to learn more about the caregiving journey.
