Not just for kids

Teen Summer Reading Program

Maybe the words "summer" and "reading" don't usually go together for you. Or maybe you love reading. Either way, sign up with us. For every 4 books you read or listen to (did you know you can download books to your computer?!) you get entered into a drawing for some sweet prizes like gift cards to Schuler Books, Best Buy, Celebration Cinema or an iPod.

Plus, we have a full line-up of don't-wanna-miss-it events, starting with a visit from Coe Booth, author of Tyrell and Kendra. Enter our essay contest and you might find yourself having dinner with this hip author! Learn some new skills in game design, songwriting, and urban art. Fans of Harry Potter won't want to miss a week full of movie watching and game playing.

Express Yourself!

Teen Songwriting Contest

Express yourself through music. Write a song (hint: check out our Teen Songwriting Workshop!) and make plans to have it performed at GRPL Idol on Thursday, August 13 at 7:00 pm. You can perform the song yourself or have someone else perform it for you. We provide the mics and the sound system, you provide any necessary musical instruments. Winner will receive 4 free hours of studio time from Mackinaw Harvest Music Group. Contest open to teens ages 11-18. Registration is required.

Harry Potter FanFic Contest

Wish you could rewrite the ending of Harry Potter and his story? Want to continue the stories of Harry and his friends? Here is your chance! Write your alternate ending, continuation of Harry's adventures, or the story of Harry's kids. Share your FanFic at the Teen Finisher Party at your local branch.

Entries due Saturday, July 31 at 5:30 pm. Email typed entries to teens@grpl.org or turn them in at any Library location. Contest open to teens ages 11-18.
