Teen TVland: American Idol

Okay! this is for all the reality TV fans. If you’re a reality TV hater…feel free to express your hate. I have a hard time watching reality shows, but some shows do catch my eye. I like the talent shows because I know it’s hard to make it in the performance world. Yes, we can argue about the behind the scenes reality…BUT hey, it’s entertainment television! If you need 15 minutes of fame…and you’re talented, go for it! Soooo anyway, the new season of American Idol has just started. I have been an on and off fan for the last few seasons. Last season I particularly enjoyed it…even though Steven Tyler got on my nerves a bit. Anyway, I know American Idol had to revise their game since 1) Simon Cowell left 2) Other Vocal Talent Shows: X-factor & The Voice have established high ratings   3) They lost some of their audience soooo when they announced Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban…. I was like… hrrrmmm, I must watch this. ESPECIALLY since 1) Mariah Carey’s husband (Nick Cannon) hosts: America’s Got Talent 2) She’s a infamous diva 3) How is this dynamic going to work?

So this was my initial reaction so far in this season:

Also, I’m guessing Randy is apparently gets meaner as season roll by…due to his continued veteran status? I mean so far from last week (I still have to watch this week) he had the most “mean-est” comments. Keith Urban (LOVE HIS VOICE) is a step up from Tyler…but I still think he’s too nice. Then (per advertisement) comes the ultimate hype drama between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. I wonder if it has drawn any new people (American Idol is on its 9th season)? I wasn’t sure how I would like their dynamic. I mean hey, i’m all about their drama if it adds to the show.  Pleaseee entertain me with your dislikes of each other… but let it be entertaining. I really would have loved to watched it unedited version of the show.  The one thing that really freaks me out about the show are Nicki’s faces freak me out. They are sooooo weird. I’m not sure if it’s a part of her personality…or if she justs encouraged by the producers.

Then the Nicki vs. Mariah drama? Though, Mariah’s comebacks have been so predictable…I was wanting her to have a little more fire. I mean, I actually didn’t mind Nicki’s switch of accents. I was fine with that. If I could pull off half a good British accent as she does…I’d be switching all the time. I wonder if that’s natural of if she had a coach? Anyway, to the issue…American Idol is no longer about the singers…it’s all about the judges.

That is my problem with this season! I mean, I do love watching the judges reactions or seeing if I agree with their comments or redundancy of agreeing with comments…but the fact is besides the few “stories” they elaborate on…all the cameras are focused on are the judges. It makes me wonder how many more seasons American Idol can spit out before they decide to finish the series.

So while I’m waiting for that…I’ll continue to watch Washington Heights and Catfish.

You might say…what does this have to do with the library? I’m glad you asked that question.

We have quite a collection of American Idol materials. After all these years…it’s still among America’s most popular show.
