Construction Truck Petting Zoo

Sheldon and Library Streets, free parking in the Main Library’s parking lot

Is your child in awe of construction trucks? Would she like to see them up close and in-person? Come explore our petting zoo of real construction trucks on display in the streets in front of the Main Library and the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum. A variety of trucks will be on display from the Kent County Road Commission, and the cities of Grand Rapids, Walker, Kentwood, Wyoming, Grandville, and East Grand Rapids! Come, explore, and learn. Hands-on activities for the whole family!

Bugs, Beetles, & Bookworms

Join the Science Alliance for this fast-paced insect safari that makes learning about entomology fun!
Investigate the life stories of monarch butterflies, dragonflies, bees, spiders and more. Learn the body parts of insects by labeling a gigantic eight-foot-long ant and praying mantis. Look through crazy goggles to see the world through a bug’s compound eye. Experience preserved and live insects close up! Scientist Bill Bosworth will help you have a blast learning about wings and stings and crawlie things!

Dinosaur Encounters

Get up close and personal with dinosaurs! Author and dino expert Janet Riehecky will explore how the dinosaurs lived and show more than 40 fossils and museum-quality replicas of real dinosaur bones. See a Tyrannosaur’s tooth, an Iguanodon’s thumb, a Velociraptor’s claw, a five-foot-seven-inch Apatosaurus femur, and even an entire Tyrannosaurus foot.

ROCKgarden Party is an interactive, fun, and educational performance about our changing environments. Charlie Kert and Little Fingers Music bring lots of instruments and teach you (Garden Pixies) how to bring the rain by getting them to sing, dance, and drum (GardenGames). Come and help us throw a ROCKgarden Party.
