Stepping at Taste of Soul Sunday

I am already getting excited to experience my first Taste of Soul Sunday on Sunday, February 20th and it’s rapidly approaching in just four weeks time.  I’ve heard lots of good things about the food, music, lectures and performances that TOSS has to offer – and this year should live up to my expectations.

Particularly, the step show that I’ve helped organize 🙂

If you’ve never heard of “stepping”, then this show would be a great introduction for you.  African-American stepping hit it’s stride in Black Greek organizations at colleges and universities all over the US and has been popularized in television and film.  Step shows are a common event that celebrate new membership or embrace the spirit of competition between Greek organizations.

At TOSS, a step show including the Grand Rapids Alpha Esquires, AKA Ivylettes, Zeta Phi Beta Pi Rho Chapter and their teen group the Archonettes will take center stage in the Ryerson Auditorium.  Here’s a glimpse:

You won’t want to miss this!

So will we have a chance to try stepping also? Looks like fun!

The Zeta Phi Beta sorority group will be doing a teen demonstration on step during TOSS. Would it look conspicuous if a few adults sauntered in?
