Public Computer Information

All Locations

The Grand Rapids Public Library has over 100 computers for library patron use at its downtown and 7 branch libraries. These computers provide patrons with a number of uses.

  • OpenOffice.org Suite is installed. This includes software for word processing, spreadsheets, and multimedia presentations.
  • Mozilla Firefox for web browsing and common plug-in use. Internet sessions are limited to 1 hour, and sessions end 15 minutes prior to the Library's close. The Catalog and Online Databases are available from any computer in the building without starting an Internet session.
  • Headphones may be used to listen to audio.
  • You may save your files with a floppy disk, USB Flash drive, or using a CD (available only on a select number of stations). The Ahead Nero CD burning software is available for this purpose. Instructions on using the software can be found here.
  • Printing costs 25 cents per page. Jobs are queued before printing, so they can be previewed before incurring any costs (Main Library and most branches). See library staff for more information on retrieving your print job.
