• Index terms are name specific. When looking for a story about a specific person, place, or company, look under the formal name, not under a more general heading.
• Letters to the editor are indexed only under the name of the writer(s), not by subject.
• Because they contain minimal information, columns such as Names and Faces in Business, Well Done, and Quick Hits are not indexed.
• Feature stories about local players and state tournament competition involving local teams, and, all-star teams and annual preseason league stories are indexed. Sports stories about scheduled league games are not indexed.

The Grand Rapids Press publishes as many as four editions and, on occasion, stories differ from edition to edition. This index provides access to the final edition, and the weekly neighborhood supplements that are printed each Thursday. When the same story appears in more than one supplement it is indexed only in the region where its subject is located. The index does not include entries from the Lakeshore edition prior to 1998. The following two-letter section codes are used to indicate various Thursday supplements.

EF = East Grand Rapids/Lowell/Ada/Cascade

GJ = Grandville/Jenison

WC = Walker/Comstock Park

WB = Wyoming/Byron Center/Hopkins

RP = Rockford/Cedar Springs/Greenville

KC = Kentwood/Caledonia/Middleville

This index does not provide the text of Grand Rapids Press articles. Actual articles are available on microfilm in the Grand Rapids History & Special Collections Department of the Grand Rapids Public Library.
