GENDIS, (Genealogical Death Indexing System) Michigan - Taken from microfilmed records transcribed by genealogists from Michigan's local genealogical societies, this searchable database contains (as of August 1999) information on 150,000 Michigan death records from 1867-1882, with more records being added regularly.

Family Tree Maker Online - A commercial site by the makers of Family Treemaker software, this page has, in addition to their products, useful articles and databases of family names, including their user home pages, and the Internet Family Finder.

GenForum - Part of the Family Tree Maker web site, an electronic bulletin board for people searching by surname, by US state, or region. Thousands of names and a great resource.

Library of Congress - Services, resources, and catalogs of one of the world's largest research libraries.

National Archives - See what types of records are available through the National Archives and their regional branches. This page is an essential for any serious genealogist.

US and Worldwide GenWeb Project - A national effort to create a web page for each county in every state of the US, and each country of the world, where researchers can find local information and post queries which are state- or county-specific.

Searchable Databases [top]

CIMO--Cimorelli Immigration Manifests Online - Several searchable databases, including the Morton Allan Directory of Passenger Arrivals. Search for a ship by name, date of arrival, etc.

Family Search - Search millions of records available through the Latter Day Saints' (Mormon) databases.

Heraldica - Fully illustrated, searchable glossary with over 500 heraldic terms in six languages.

Internet Family Finder - Part of the Family Tree Maker web site, searches hundreds of thousands of web pages on the internet for family names.

Miami Valley (Ohio) Genealogical Index - Michigan's neighbor, Ohio, has been referred to as the "Gateway to the West" because so many Americans passed through it or lived there in the course of the settlement of the United States. This database of more than 500,000 names will prove invaluable to those with Ohio connections.

Roots-L Surname Index Interactive search - Search by surname or location. To get started, click on the words "interactively searched, which you'll find about half way down the page in the section "ROOTS-L Files and Databases."

Social Security Death Indexes - Use this to help determine when and where an individual died. Write to the SSA to obtain copies of the original Social Security applications, which includes the names of the applicant's parents and place of birth.
