AmeriCorps, a federal government program that partners with local non-profit organizations to meet critical community needs, is set to triple in size over the next eight years. This means that the current level of 75,000 annual service opportunities will grow to over 250,000 nation-wide positions by 2017. Although not salaried, volunteers may qualify for monthly living stipends, tuition funding and student loan repayment monies. These benefits seem to be a perfect fit for recent grads or folks between careers.
Community volunteers to-be should keep tabs on this growing program by looking out for emergent opportunities from the AmeriCorps website or by scanning other job searching sites such as Craigslist.
