I am not one to make a new years resolution. And if I do, I admit I have a hard time sticking to it. I have a friend who doesn’t resolve to give things up but to complete things. I like this idea.
However, this year I have decided to make some resolutions, and they actually do involve giving things up. Actually, I decided to give them up awhile ago, but I chose to wait until now. The first is cable, and well, I had to wait. I mean, Dexter’s season was not yet done. It was finishing right before my cable billing cycle, so I just finished out the cycle, which happened to be the beginning of the year. So far, no cable has been OK. I use the library’s dvd collection even more. And I am able to stream directly from my tv if nothing is on the local channels. Or, I will read and listen to music more! So many benefits on top of the cost savings! Why didn’t I give it up sooner?
The other will be harder, though, and I am doing it slowly. Now that I have a toddler and because I do not want her drinking soda, I have resolved to give up my Diet Coke. It hurts to say it. It hurts to write it! It just hurts. It (and chocolate) are the two things I have always sworn I could not live without. I have suffered from the headaches in the past so I am weaning myself off the stuff. So far, so….so. I know that in the long term, I will feel better and again, there will be a significant savings. So, suffer I will. And I bet it will feel great to say I succeeded in keeping my resolutions!
If you have made some resolutions but think you might need help in keeping them or reaching your goals, the library has lots of books to help.
