Monty Python turns 40.

Yes, just a mere 15 years before I was born Monty Python was airing their offbeat version of humor in the UK.  Monty Python was actually a huge cultural and comedic experience for me.  So much that I remember the first time I saw The Holy Grail.  I had already gone to bed and my sister came up to our room and told us we had to watch the funniest movie she’d ever seen.  I was pretty sleepy so a lot of the concepts were not registering as funny, but just plain confusing.  Why were they pretending to be on horses, and arguing about coconuts?  And thanks to GRPL I was able to rent out the VHS of their hilarious tv show Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

Some of my favorite skits, in case you were wondering:

It’s the Mind

The Architect Sketch

Silly Walks

I remember waiting to see the naked guy playing piano. It aired on PBS when I was young. The movies, however, made my teenage sons use annoyingly bad British accents for months, therefore losing some of their attraction for me.
