To coincide with the Michigan Modern: Design that Shaped America Exhibition & Symposium coming to Grand Rapids this Spring and Summer, the Local History Department has been featuring a series of displays on mid century modern architecture and design in Michigan. The first of these highlighted architect and builder James Bronkema.
The newest display, done by Chris Byron, focuses on travel and roadside tourism in Michigan during the mid century years, and features motel, gas station, and restaurant postcards. Chris recently did a presentation for the West Michigan Postcard Club related to this display, which was written about here by West Michigan Modern.
“Modern as Tomorrow” will be on display on the 4th floor of the Main Library May 1 – June 30.
