Mayor’s Book Club for June

Got an eager new reader at home?  Or maybe a not so eager new reader?  Either way, they’ll be drawn to the story of Rocket, a dog with an unusual reading teacher. First Rocket becomes entranced by a story, then he’s introduced to the “wondrous, mighty, gorgeous alphabet”.  Lessons in letter sounds follow, along with some simple spelling. Can you guess what happens next?

To learn more, join the mayor in reading How Rocket Learned to Read, by Tad Hills, a book that manages to both illustrate the steps involved in learning to read AND tell a fun story.  The mayor will be visiting Grand Rapids Community College Laboratory Preschool to share the story with some very lucky students!

Visit the Mayor’s Book Club webpage for more information about the club, to print out your own booklet, and to find out how to have the mayor come read at your school!
