What’s your turnip? In our story this month, a rabbit finds an extra turnip while preparing for the cold winter months and decides to give it to a friend who may not have been as fortunate. So how will you be giving back this season? The holidays are the perfect time for kids to learn the importance and joys of giving, whether it’s adding some coins to the bell ringer’s bucket, donating a toy to Toys for Tots, giving food to a local food basket, or making holiday gifts for friends and family.
To help get started, join the mayor in reading Rabbit’s Gift, by George Shannon, a story adapted from a Chinese fable about the gift of friendship and the happiness that comes with paying it forward. The mayor will be visiting Living Stones Academy to share the story with some very lucky students!
Visit the Mayor’s Book Club webpage for more information about the club, to print out your own booklet, and to find out how to have the mayor come read at your school!
