March is Reading Month!

March is Reading Month

It was seven o’clock of a very warm evening in the Seeonee hills when Father Wolf woke up from his day’s rest, scratched himself, yawned, and spread out his paws one after the other to get rid of the sleepy feeling in their tips.” Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book.

It’s been 40 years since my mom’s passing, and I still like to re-read the books that she read to me as a child. They remain my favorite “classics”, and are among my strongest memories of her. Who wants to remember a video game when they’re old? The “bed time story” ritual has existed for ages for good reason. Things may change in these modern times, but why deny yourself the treat of sharing some great stories? Ones like:

The Velveteen Rabbit

Treasure Island

Lord of the Rings

The Jungle Book

Little House in the Big Woods

The Little Prince

And the new modern children’s authors are fantastic! Find your own favorites to share…
