Bailey is one of many kids who became a Ruff Reader during March Reading Month. In the picture above, she is reading to Babi, a Cocker Spaniel who loves hearing all the great stories kids find in the library!
Did you know studies indicate that kids who read to therapy dogs increase their reading levels at a faster rate than when reading to a human? Kids are less intimidated when they read to dogs, the dog doesn’t judge them and so their confidence is increased along with their reading abilities. Plus, it’s just plain fun to read to a dog and so kids stick with it for longer periods of time. Keep on eye on our future events and programs calendar…we’ll be having Ruff Readers come back to the Grand Rapids Public Library!
