  • For Windows clients.
Around the first of the year we developed a method to send a client a "You have x minutes remaining..." message. This used some Perl compiled into a binary on the client end to generate a Tk dialog box. It had some problems with earlier versions of Windows. We now use the Net::NetSend module and the Windows Popup message client to facilitate this. For Windows 95/98, there is a small program called 'mess95.exe' that replaces winpopup.exe, and works much nicer for these purposes.

  • For users of Innovative Interfaces Millennium, we can now utilize the Patron API to block logins based on any portion of the patron record. Tested modules include requiring a note field be set to show that minors have a signed form on file for Internet access, blocking based on a dollar amount owed threshold, or setting a filter flag automatically for juvenile users.
