LIBRARIAN III-Collection Development Supervisor
Reference and Adult Services

RATE OF PAY: $51,249 TO $65,408

The Grand Rapids Public Library is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to plan, coordinate, organize, and supervise collection development duties in the Reference and Adult Services department. Including but not limited to the following:

  • Supervises the Reference and Adult Services librarians. collection development practices.
  • Supervises overall collection development, materials purchasing procedures, and weeding of the Grand Rapids Public Library.s adult collections.
  • Develops and recommends changes to the collection development policy to supervisors and the library board.
  • Coordinates and plans material budgets.
  • Evaluates donated materials for addition to collection.
  • Orders all Express (high demand, best seller) titles for the Grand Rapids Public Library.

People applying for this position must have an ALA accredited MLS degree; thorough knowledge of and ability to apply principles, methods, practices and procedures of modern professional library work; ability to develop goals, strategies, procedures, policies and guidelines; knowledge of patron interests and needs; ability to apply trends and developments in library work; collection development experience; ability to develop, plan, organize, schedule, assign and evaluate the work of subordinate employees; knowledge of the Internet; the ability to plan and implement proven collection development techniques; ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with a diverse public and library employees at all levels.
