I stayed up too late last night reading and got up early this morning to finish the last pages of Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder. I loved loved loved this book! Patchett has a fabulous way with developing characters you care deeply about and then dropping them into strange and unexpected scenarios where their very humanity is tested. I would also strongly recommend Bel Canto, a book for which she has received much praise.
You will find yourself wondering over the characters’ reactions and decisions… Would you have done the same? And long after you’re done reading you will find yourself haunted by her books. I think that is the best sign of a good read – when you absolutely cannot forgot a story.

I am not a Fiction reader but your review of this title might be the first fiction book I read! You are absolutely right when you said, "best sign of a good read – when you absolutely cannot forgot a story". So so true. Oh the joy of reading!

Oh, Mary, you should read it. If you want a non-fiction read in the same setting (and I would say I am not a non-fiction reader) I would recommend The Lost City of Z!

halfway through this book Amanda and I LOVE it too! I'm a sucker for Amazon explorer type scenarios and this story plays to that nicely. But I was hooked from the first page! Thanks for sharing.
