Healthy Eating in 2014

cooking mattersWith the coming of a new year, many of us make make resolutions to lose weight, exercise and eat better. Now the Grand Rapids Public Library and the YMCA of Grand Rapids can help you reach one of those goals by offering patrons the opportunity to participate in Cooking Matters. Cooking Matters is a national program that empowers families with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make healthy and affordable meals. With the help of culinary and nutrition experts, course participants learn how to select nutritious and low-cost ingredients and prepare them in ways that provide the best nourishment possible to their families.

Cooking Matters is a FREE six week cooking and nutrition course. Each class meets once a week for two hours and is taught by a chef and experienced nutrition educator. Classes are hands on so come prepared to cook! Participants will receive a workbook that includes recipes, a reusable grocery bag, cutting board and meat thermometer.

Participants will be required to attend all six classes. One of the six classes will be held at a local supermarket.

Cooking Matters will be held at the Main Library on Monday nights at 6 pm. Classes begin on January 13 and run through February 17. Registration for Cooking Matters is required and participants must have a valid Grand Rapids Library card. Registration is limited to 15 participants.
