Doctor Who has made it to its 5oth anniversary this year. Tonight the much anticipated 50th Anniversary Special will be premiering to the delight of Whovians everywhere. Whether you watch Doctor Who or not you have to admit a TV show staying on the air for 50 years is pretty brilliant. What’s even more impressive is its continuity. The current Doctor Who isn’t a new series like Star Trek Voyager or Enterprise with a whole new cast of characters. No, the Doctor is the same alien as in the original, just with a new face courtesy of the Time Lord’s ability to regenerate (rewriting every cell in his body in order to cheat death). The current Doctor is in his Eleventh regeneration and is played by Matt Smith, however for the 50th, he’ll be joined by David Tennant reprising his role at the Tenth Doctor, much to my overwhelming delight. Oh, John Hurt is also playing the Doctor. We have an abundance of Doctors, but we’re not complaining. The more the merrier… or the more likely the universe will implode. Don’t forget to check out the prequel The Night of the Doctor as well before the premiere tonight.
The 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, will premiere tonight 7 pm.
If you haven’t seen Doctor Who, but are desperate to know what the heck a TARDIS is, or are just curious come check out some seasons from the library.
