Ha Ha Ha! LaughFest and Your Library

Once again the library has teamed up with LaughFest for some pretty funny events. We’ve got something for everyone (except curmudgeons. There’s no pleasing them.)

Teen Improv Night
Thursday, March 7, 7:00 pm
Main Library | Level 3 | Ryerson Auditorium

Teens are invited to be a part of the show when an improv comedy troupe performs at the library! Laugh at their ridiculous antics, or join them on stage as they lampoon their way through hilarious scenes, using their wit and your suggestions. Audience participation is encouraged. For teen ages 11-18.

Pretty Funny Movies: I Am Comic
Monday, March 11, 7:00 pm
Main Library | Level 3 | Ryerson Auditorium

Going way beyond the funny, filmmaker Jordan Brady crafts an eye-opening portrait of the life of a professional comedian, shadowing retired comic Ritch Shydner as he bravely returns to the stand-up stage after more than a decade out of the spotlight. With the aid of candid interviews, backstage footage and performance clips, the film also rounds up advice from many popular comedians on what makes modern audiences laugh. Rated R.

Literary Showcase
Wednesday, March 13, 7:00 pm
Main Library | Level 3 | Ryerson Auditorium

Don’t miss this unique showcase where local writers and poets get the opportunity to share with us what makes them laugh. Sign up if you’d like to share something funny with the audience.

Kids Joke Night
Thursday, March 14, 6:00 pm
Main Library | Level 2 | Storytime Room

funniest jokes!

Pretty Funny Movies: Why Do I Do This?
Thursday, March 14, 7:00 pm
Main Library | Level 3 | Ryerson Auditorium

One of America’s fastest-rising comedians, Bill Burr, wields his razor-sharp wit with rare skill. In this performance, Bill takes aim at the stuff that drives us crazy: political correctness gone haywire, his views against population control for animals and girlfriends (or, as he calls them, relentless psycho robots). A keenly observant social commentator, he is also one of the funniest voices in comedy today and a participant in LaughFest 2013. Rated R.

A Laugh in the Attic!
The Playful Poetry of Shel Silverstein
All 8 locations – dates  & times listed below

During LaughFest, “Where the Sidewalk Ends” is at your very own Grand Rapids Public Library… but on the way make sure not to “Bump the Glump!” When thinking about the poetry of Shel Silverstein words such as absurd, amusing, ludicrous, ridiculous, hysterical and absolutely brilliant come to mind. Since his first book for children “Uncle Shelby’s Story of Lafcadio” was published in 1963, Uncle Shel’s books of poetry have become “must read” classics for children of all ages. Kids 12 and under are invited to come listen to his poetry and stories, and then create your own poetry or illustrate your favorite poems.
