An exciting new project is currently floating around the Grand Rapids community, and it’s the idea of free education. Word on the street is that Grand Rapid is starting its very own Free School, “a community-based organization of people who freely participate in creating, sharing, and learning together as equals”. Anyone can teach classes, and anyone can attend one. Simple as that. Highlights for this month include classes on yoga, sling making, a Feminism workshop, a Know Your Rights workshop, and a French language course.
Just a few days ago when I heard about their August classes, the French class grabbed my attention. After having forgotten much of the language since I took courses in college, I thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to relearn. I had the thought, “So potentially, I could meet up with a group to speak French AND use GRPL’s Mango language database as a supplement?” Sounds like a winning combination to me!
