First call Miss Dig, and then you can go rent the backhoe to make your new rain garden. Yes! Not always necessary, but there is every excuse to go ahead and get out the heavy equipment if you want to really provide a deep drainage pool. Water is a valuable resource, and there is every reason to keep this commodity within our lot boundaries, rather than going down the storm drain. Rain gardens “capture” runaway water to enhance the value of our property and community. We have lots of free pamphlets on rain gardens available at the Main Library now, and there are plenty of online tips. The West Michigan Environmental Action Council offers a wealth of online help. Many community organizations are installing rain gardens, and we have a beautiful one at the Main Library. ( GRPL rain garden)
