Parents and caregivers are invited to bring their preschoolers, ages 3 to 5, to 45-minute classes featuring literacy-rich activities such as interactive storytelling using puppets, dramatic play, and hands-on fun. Related songs, fingerplays, and activities are interspersed between books. Classes end with a fun and creative art activity. Families with infants – preschoolers welcome.

Covering the Crisis: The Impact of Media in Times of Disaster

In this lively panel discussion, WGVU’s Shelley Irwin, Mlive’s Tanda Gmiter, WZZM’s Taz Painter, crisis management expert Dr. Curt Bechler and moderator Dave Jaconette from WJRW will discuss how media coverage of a disaster can change public perception and even the way the disaster is handled. The panelists will also talk about how social media has changed the way breaking news is covered and how disaster is covered in West Michigan, such as the 2014 Grand River flood.

The Veggie Van runs year round, making daily stops in urban neighborhoods throughout Grand Rapids, assuring that fruits and vegetables are available to people who otherwise have limited access to fresh produce. We sell locally grown, top-quality fruits and vegetables at reduced prices. Additionally, we accept SNAP, WIC, and Senior Project Fresh/Market FRESH benefits.
