The YMCA Veggie Van is West Michigan’s first and only mobile farmers market. The Veggie Van runs year round, making daily stops in urban neighborhoods throughout Grand Rapids, assuring that fruits and vegetables are available to people who otherwise have limited access to fresh produce. We sell locally grown, top-quality fruits and vegetables at reduced prices. Additionally, we accept SNAP, WIC, and Senior Project Fresh/Market FRESH benefits. Email mvanderbrug@grymca.org to receive weekly emails with the week’s Veggie Van products.

EatPlayGrow combines the latest science and research to teach children ages 2-5 and their parents how to make healthy nutrition and physical activity choices. Join GRPL and Cherry Health for interactive and engaging lessons that incorporate art-making, storytelling, music and movement activities into fun, hands-on educational lessons about the importance of making positive choices in areas that most affect health: nutrition, physical activity, and, based on emerging medical research, sleep.

Medical anthropologist Barbara Rylko-Bauer will discuss her book A Polish Doctor in the Nazi Camps. The book details her mother’s experience after she was arrested in 1944 for suspicion of resistance activities. For 15 months she endured three Nazi concentration camps and a 42-day death march, spending part of the time working as a prisoner-doctor to Jewish slave laborers. Founded in 2009 by friends in Grand Rapids, the Kent County String Band is a five-piece ensemble that specializes in classic standards, traditional bluegrass, and turn of the century Americana. Employing the traditional string band lineup of violin, mandolin, guitar, banjo, and upright bass, these experienced musicians present a good-time take on old-time tunes and stellar standards of yesteryear.
