In partnership with the YMCA, the library is pleased to offer Cooking Matters for Seniors, a six-week nutritional education program that fights hunger by teaching people how to make healthy food choices on a budget. Participants will learn how to select nutritious and low-cost ingredients and prepare them in ways that provide the best possible nourishment to their families. Cooking Matters provides recipes, books, and handouts as well as a bag of groceries containing the ingredients of the day’s lesson.…

Wage Theft in Grand Rapids

Wage theft is the illegal practice of not paying workers for all of their work including: violating minimum wage laws, not paying overtime, forcing workers to work off the clock, and more. Join panelists from the Workers Center of West Michigan and attorney Robert Alvarez to discuss their efforts to combat wage theft in the area. A question and answer session will follow the discussion. Light refreshments will be served.
