Come celebrate Día de los Muertos with the Grand Rapids Public Library. Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that honors family and friends who have passed on. Documentary films can help connect people, answer questions, paint bigger pictures and shine light on greater truths. It has never been easier to look at the world through a camera lens. This class will help you do it! Teens are encourged to bring story ideas and we will teach the basics of documentary film making and how filmmakers use techniques found in fiction films to craft something engaging. Registration is required. For teens in grades 6-12.

Families are invited to learn more about the Day of the Dead holiday, explore the altars, decorate sugar skulls, have your face painted and do a craft. Local author and altar creator Roberta King will read from her book He Plays a Harp and discuss her altar she created honoring her son, the subject of her book. Light refreshments will be served.
