As you might have heard, the library will be presenting its first ever Dia de los Muertos fesitivities in the Ryerson auditorium from October 28-30. It kicks off tonight from 6-8pm with Magical Rain Theaterworks and altars made by members of the local community will be on display all day Friday and Saturday and there will be sugar skull painting on Saturday as well.
For the event, I did an altar for my mom, who passed away a little over two years ago. I wasn’t sure how to make an altar and the research I did seemed outside of my realm of design, so I just grabbed some photos, an obituary program and some of my mom’s favorite things and put them on display.
A sneak peek:
Many of the altars that are being set up are much more elaborate and intricately designed. But you’ll have to stop by to get a look at those!
The wonderful kids from Godfrey Lee High School were kind enough to provide some artsy signage for the foyer.
You don’t want to miss this!
