¡ Day of the Dead Programs !

Save the dates October 28 through 30! The Main library is hosting its first-ever Day of the Dead festivities in the Ryerson Auditorium. On Thursday, October 28, join us from 6pm to 8pm as we welcome the Magical Rain Theaterworks. With a mix of theater, myths and stories, we will learn about the Mexican holiday of El Dìa de Los Muertos as it is celebrated both in Mexico and north of the border.

On Friday, October 29, (all day) the library auditorium will host over 20 altars built by local residents who want to share the memory of their family and friends. Every altar is unique, but taken together they create a fascinating portrait of what the citizens of Grand Rapids hold dear to them. An explanation of each altar will be provided.

Altars will again be on display on Saturday (all day), October 30, and children are invited to decorate sugar skulls. Light refreshments will be served. We do hope you’ll join us!
