Newspaper articles on specific subjects, found by volunteer researchers, are being copied from the newspapers on microfilm. These photocopied clippings live in 3-ringed binders at the Grand Rapids History & Special Collections, and are generally arranged chronologically, and by newspaper title. Some of the subjects covered to date are: African Americans, Civil War, Women, Baseball, Education, Police, and so forth.

Additionally, newspaper clippings by subject may be found in the GRHSCD Vertical File Collection.

• GRPL African America Clippings Collection

  These clippings currently cover a time period from 1830 to 1935. The list of newspapers below suggests a Michigan scope. However, most of the clippings are from Grand Rapids area newspapers.

• Architecture & Buildings

  This file indexes articles from the Sunday Grand Rapids Herald, primarily on local house construction, from 1907 to 1920. The clippings are located in the GRHSCD Vertical Files, arranged alphabetically by street name.
