The Grand Rapids (Michigan) Furniture Record Co., under the auspices of the Michigan Furniture Manufacturers Association, began publication of THE GRAND RAPIDS FURNITURE RECORD in June 1900. The periodical's initial purpose was to report monthly on the manufacture and sale of furniture and related products in Michigan, but within a few years, this scope was expanded to include the furniture industry throughout the United States. Although the periodical details the wholesale and retail furniture industry from throughout the nation, it particularly focused on the industry in the Midwest. A regular feature, however, is a report from major furniture centers in the country like Grand Rapids, Chicago, Rockford, St. Louis, Cincinnati, New York, Jamestown, and Highpoint. Included in the journals are interviews with furniture manufacturers and designers, articles on retailing, reports of new factory construction and expansion, and obituaries of people in the trade.
