 Copyright and Other Restrictions The Grand Rapids Public Library offers the A Grand Century presentation photographs and text as a contribution to education and scholarship. Material in the presentation is protected by U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.). In addition, reproduction of materials in this presentation my be restricted by terms of Grand Rapids Public Library gift or purchase agreements, donor restrictions, privacy and publicity rights, or licensing and trademarks. Transmission or reproduction of protected items in this presentation, beyond that allowed by fair use, requires the written permission of the Grand Rapids Public Library or the copyright owners. This presentation is based on the holdings of the Library’s Local History Collection of historical archive materials. In historical archival collections, copyright or other information about use restrictions is often difficult and even impossible to determine. Whenever possible, the Library provides information about copyright owners and other restrictions in its catalog records, finding aids, and presentation illustration captions and texts. The library provides such information as a service to aid patrons in determining the appropriate use of an item, but determination of copyright or other use restrictions ultimately rests with the patron. In many cases the Grand Rapids Public Library does not own rights to historical archival material in its collections. It does not charge permission fees for use of the material and cannot give or deny permission for its publication or distribution. It is the patron’s obligation to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions when publishing or otherwise distributing materials found in the library’s historical archival collections.
