AMBUCS is a diverse group of caring men and women dedicated to creating
independence for people with disabilities of all ages. We do this
through several programs:
~ Our AmTrykes program provides therapeutic tricycles to children with
disabilities. The AmTryke improves coordination, muscle strength and
self-esteem, and it is also fun to ride! These special trykes are
provided to individual children as well as schools and other facilities
these children attend.
~ The AMBUCS Scholars program awards over $200,000 nationally each year
to students in accredited therapy programs. AMBUCS is the largest
private single source of educational grants for therapists in America.
~ Each year, we host a Springfest Party for people with disabilities.
There is untold anticipation among those who return year after year,
experiencing an evening of food, music and fun. For first-time guests,
the joy is immeasurable. For many of the party guests, it is the only
social event they are invited to all year. For our members, it is most
rewarding to see the joy the party brings to our guests.
~ Fundraising takes on many forms, from candy vending machines proceeds
to auctions to sales of Entertainment Books.
AMBUCS is dedicated to the idea that every individual owes something to
the community in which he or she lives. We are a national, non-profit
organization with chapters in all 50 states that has quietly improved
the lives of those with disabilities since 1929. Our name is derived
from American Business Clubs but membership is open to anyone interested
in joining our friendly group and pitching in to help those with
disabilities.
The Grand Rapids Chapter meets each Wednesday at noon at Rembrandt’s
restaurant (except when there are five Wednesdays in a month, then there
is no meeting on the fifth Wednesday). Guest speakers are invited each
week; the topics range from A to Z and are always intriguing. To learn
