Summer is a great time to get out and explore our amazing state. I’m partial to our beautiful West Michigan beaches, but there are state parks and trails all over the state. If you aren’t a regular visitor with a Recreation Passport, we’ve got a great opportunity for you!
Stop in to your nearest Grand Rapids Public Library location to check out a pass to MI Big Green Gym. This pass gets you entry into a state park of your choosing. The pass will be good for one week after you check it out and admits one vehicle for day use only. Just like our other passes, these go quickly! We encourage you to visit your state parks and recreation areas and get active. As a bonus, check this calendar for free Recreation 101 classes at the park you plan to visit. They offer basic classes on things like kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, kite making and sand sculpting. If a class isn’t for you, just get out there and explore the trails or read a good book in the sun.
The MI Big Green Gym initiative is a partnership between the Michigan Recreation and Park Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
