On Saturday, November 6, join us for Family Day! This is part of the week long festivities, we call Celebration of the Book.
Kids, starting at 11:00 am an artist from the Cook Arts Center will be helping you make puppy ears and doggy bones. Participate in our life-sized Clifford the Big Red Dog game. Meet Clifford and Geronimo Stilton!
If you like laugh-out-loud books, then stay for a visit from award-winning children’s author, Lisa Wheeler at 1:00 pm. She will read from at least two of her popular books.
At 2:00 pm, April Pulley Sayre, will tell you how she creates true (nonfiction) books that are playful. Watch a behind-the-scenes video look of her new, 2010 book, He’s a Howler. Find out why fish names are tongue-tangled and just plain funny.
Both authors will be available after their events to sign books. Books will be available for purchase from Pooh’s Corner. Twenty percent of all book sales benefit the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation.
Teens, sleep in and then get to the main library.
At 1:30 pm, join teens who like the Hunger Games books as much as you do! Train as a Tribute! Practice your archery skills and dart-throwing, identify poisonous plants, learn to tie knots and apply camouflage! Many may enter, only one may win…
At 3:00 pm, the day ends with Verbal Heaven with one of my favorite poets, Romeo Ray. Hear a blissful array of poems to touch the mind, body and soul. He has done many poetry events, slams and contests, winning most of them. Bring your original poetry for this fast-paced slam that will leave you moved beyond measure!
See you there.
