Calling all campers!

Time to think summer – summer camp that is!

The Main Library will be hosting the Grand Rapids Family Magazine’s 2012 Camp Expo & Education Fair on Saturday, March 24 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. It’s one-stop shopping for camps near (Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, Grand Rapids Art Museum) and far (Camp Newayo, Camp Michawana, Spring Hill Camp, Camp Manitou-Lin).

Twenty different camps will be represented at this event, providing opportunities for kids and teens of all ages. I personally was never brave enough to go away to camp (or was it my mom who wimped out?) but I have fond memories of participating in day camps where I created art, learned theater, sampled pom-pom, attempted volleyball (and determined it was not for me). Both kinds of camps (overnight far away and drop off for the day) will be represented at the event.

Colleges are planning summer fun:
• Ferris State University
• Grand Valley State University (participating in the Lake Michigan Writing Project)
Calvin College
Hope College
Kendall College of Art and Design

So are local schools:
Grand Rapids Public Schools
West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science

Is there a kid at your house who loves animals? Consider:
Black River Farm & Ranch
The Humane Society of West Michigan
The John Ball Zoo

Know any Lego fans? Put Bricks for Kidz on your list.

Girls should check out Girl Scouts. Athletes should consider MVP Sports. And let’s not forget the Salvation Army Kroc Center for a full range of fun.

Parents, we’re making it easy for you! Show up, ask questions, get answers, and get your kiddos enrolled. Remember – only you can prevent summer boredom.
