Terrible Yellow Eyes: A Tribute to Where the Wild Things Are


Time has flown by since I first wrote of my excitement for the film, Where the Wild Things Are; in a little over 24 hours I’ll be sitting in the theater munching on popcorn and enjoying a children’s literary classic come to life.  My own excitement over this film isn’t uncommon as tons of articles, interviews, and even artwork has popped up in response.   Terrible Yellow Eyes is a collaborative project of many artists, all producing pieces of artwork inspired by Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are.  The blog features over 100 artists and posting continues.  Gallery Nucleus in California recently selected hosted a Terrible Yellow Eyes show, which ran September 19th-October 6th.  Though the show has concluded you can still view the artwork shown on Gallery Nucleus’s website, purchase prints and in some cases, the original artwork.

Remember Where the Wild Things Are opens Friday, October 16th!

    I just finished reading the grown up version of Where the Wild Things Are. It’s called Wild Things and it’s written by Dave Eggers.

    You might wonder how a picture book can be transformed into a novel or a full length film but I was impressed with the result. Max and each of the wild things are given full personalities.

    Apparently Eggers wrote the screenplay for the film and ended up with enough material to make a novel too. The story in the novel ended up being different from the film though. I suggest enjoying both and comparing the two.

    The artwork on the terrible eyes site is so good! And so many as well. It’s intimidating to say the least. I didn’t really consider watching this movie, but I’m thinking about it now.
