The Atrium Blog

A long search has ended.

For years now, I have been trying to remember the name of a series of books I read in the sixth grade. Until today that search has been in vain. I knew the premise of the book, but could not for the life of me figure out what it was called or who it was by. Today I decided to search one last time and PRESTO! I found it!

What book trilogy has been giving me so much trouble? Only one of the best aliens-take over-the-world books ever! The Tripod Trilogy (The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead, and The Pool of Fire) by John Christopher captivated me as a youngster. I think if you have any intrest in aliens you should check out these fine books.

The White Mountains begins with the main character Will. He is on the cusp of turning 14. As he struggles with his own identity in his crumbling world, he also worries about being capped. You see at age 14 the tripods come for you and implant what is called a cap in your head. Through this cap they control and monitor all your movements. As his time as a free human ticks away he is contacted by members of a rebel force. Their stronghold is in the White Mountains and Will has to make it there before the tripods catch up with him.

I don’t want to spoil the end of the first book so I will say nothing about the other two. You will have to discover Will’s world for yourself! Happy reading!

One Response to “A long search has ended.”

  1. I read these when I was younger, and thought they were great. The City of Gold and Lead was also serialized as a comic strip in the back of Boys Life.
